4th of July Weekend

Asparagus in a blanket

This pintxo will have you asking for more please.  Asparagus, Spanish ham and cheese wrapped in a crispy dough, topped off with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.
Hello!  The kids are asking for asparagus every night!

How should I celebrate my Friday night without friends and fireworks?!!  Let’s do a night in the city - free gastrotour with a local Basque gentleman, Ibai.   The city really lights up at night and is bustling with young beautiful people having fun.  The old town is car less, where people walk freely with drinks in hand.  Groups are playing cards and games, and ladies sit in a circle on the ground sharing wine and laughter.   I’ve not been to New  Orleans, but I imagine it may have the same vibe?

I met up with Ibai, and two other couples.   One couple was local and the other was from Madrid.  Luckily, Ibai spoke English and did some translating for me.  We visited 3 bars and experienced pintxos, the Basque version of tapas.  Most everything is a little bit of heaven on pan, of course.

It was a fun night of delicious pintxos, lots of Spanish practice, and new friends!  I didn’t miss the fireworks after all.

On the way home, I noticed these seats.  Do we have these?   The pregnant mama caught my eye.
