Vitoria celebrates a week long fiesta in early August called the Virgen Blanca festivities. Thousands of Vitorians gather in the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca to start off the week’s festivities. Dating back to 1884, these festivities honor the patron saint of the city, offering a unique blend of tradition, music, sports, community gatherings, religious ceremonies, children’s activities, theatre, and fireworks. The folks dress up in traditional Basque clothing for the celebrations. Elders dance the night away with lots of stamina and rhythm. The line dancing and energy was incredible.
