Room with a view

After the city life, we explored a little town called Tanes, population under 200, in the Redes National Park.  Nathaniel rented a car so we were free to travel the unexpected rural routes with cows, goats and mucho vaca caca (cow poop)!  Many adventures, close calls, a treacherous hike to the waterfall, bridges, massive mountains and bountiful green nature.  This experience was by far the smallest I have felt in quite some time.

We stayed in a small family-run inn with only a few guests.  Our hostess, Sonia, was so nice, funny and accommodating.   She basically was a one woman show with occasional help that we could see.  She kept track of our food and drink orders and we paid for everything at checkout.   I was impressed!

After our hike, we ate at a small restaurant in a village of 20 something folks.  The lady I befriended said only 4 people live there in the winter.  I counted out uno, dos, tres, cuatro, and she said Si!  We were starving and there was no menu. The Spanish dialect was a little different and really fast.  I wonder if it was Basque.   Sean said that it didn’t sound Spanish to him.  I managed to order hamburgers that came with paprika fries.  Yum!

Brave one

The highlight of the adventure were these adorable goats. We spotted them up high and had to stop to say hello.  All of a sudden, little goat heads kept popping up.  They were so happy, tails wagging and very curious.  Priceless!
